International Day of Forests

Mar 21st, 2024
Uganda

The International Day of Forests is observed annually on March 21st. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, this day raises awareness about the importance of forests and trees in sustaining life on Earth.

Forests play a crucial role in biodiversity conservation, combating climate change, providing livelihoods for millions of people, and supporting the livelihoods of indigenous communities. The International Day of Forests aims to promote efforts to protect and sustainably manage forests, as well as to raise awareness about the value of forests in achieving sustainable development goals.

Each year, the International Day of Forests has a specific theme to focus attention on particular aspects of forest conservation and management. Activities such as tree planting campaigns, educational programs, and community events are often organized around the world to mark the day and encourage action to protect and preserve forests for future generations.
