Trans-boundary Natural Resource Governance

Uganda's Extractive Industry cannot be treated in isolation from the developments in the Great Lakes Region or the East African Community because some of the resources are transboundary in nature and while in other instances, the infrastructural and other development projects are regional in nature. Take an example of the waters shared between RDC and Uganda or the upcoming Oil refinery that binds Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

Through our partnership with IUCN NL, our Transboundary Natural Resource Governance Program in the African Great Lakes empowers local communities to safeguard the unique ecosystems and influence governments and regional bodies to respect human, social, economic and environmental needs and rights. Local communities across borders take a pro- active role in the management and utilization of natural resources for the common good.
