Transparency and Accountability

Since its establishment in 2008, Global Rights Alert has taken centre stage in advocating for transparency and accountability in the governance of natural resources to ensure proper management of resources.  Basing on experiences from our work in social accountability, GRA believes that transparency and accountability can be enhanced when government and corporate companies act with openness in how they plan and manage the country's resources. Therefore our interventions along the value chain aim at involving Ugandans to understand each stage of the value chain, the opportunities and challenges thereat and how to address these challenges.

Through groups and coalitions such as Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Civil Society Coalition for Oil and Gas (CSCO) as well as Uganda Contracts Monitoring Coalition, GRA has shaped the country's legislative framework, spearheaded the EITI campaign and advocated for an accountable Environment Impact Assessment system.
