Civic space in the Wake of the COVID19 Pandemic

On 14th May 2020, GRA organized our first webinar on Civic space in the Oil and Gas sector in the wake of the COVID19 pandemic. The last few months have required Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to accept a higher degree of the unknown in our operations, and this calls constant adaptation CSOs to need to be innovative and creative in how we work. This virtual meeting provided a platform for different CSOs stakeholders to dialogue on the state of civic space in the extractives industry in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and device strategies on how they will continue to sustain the essential programs and services their organizations deliver.

The webinar brought together 31 stakeholders at the forefront of the protection and promotion of Human and Resource Rights in the extractives sector- from Civil Society Organisations, Community Based Organisations, Security Personnel, Community Activists to members of different Civil Society Networks and Coalitions in the Oil and Gas sector.

First of all, we would like to thank those of you who joined us for our first webinar on 14th May! It was an excellent opportunity to connect and to share experiences and lessons from the COVID19 pandemic and device strategies to guide further engagement with both Rights Holders and Duty bearers. We hope you found it useful. Contact us at info@globalrightsalert.org to receive the full version of the webinar.
