Community Based Monitors task new leaders on Community aspirations

Over the last quarter, GRA through its Community Based Monitors (CBMs) organised a series of meetings between community representatives from Kikuube and Kakumiro districts and their newly elected leaders. The participants included the Kakumiro Resident District Commissioner, District LCV chairperson, District Natural Resource Officer (DNRO), District Community Development Officer (DCDO), CBMs, youth leaders, Sub-County and District councillors, and representatives of political parties, persons affected by the EACOP, and the elected Members of Parliament. The platforms enabled the communities to raise their aspirations to the new leaders in regard to the issues they wish to have the leaders concentrate on in the new term. These districts continue to paddle through the effects of Oil and Gas industry developments and thus need leaders that in touch with their reality which can be possible with constructive discussions and information sharing. The engagements also provided an opportunity for the leaders to make commitments and jointly plan with the communities on how to meet the desired aspirations.
