President Museveni commits to EITI

In a meeting with the EU ambassadors and President Museveni to discuss issues of mutual interest between Uganda and the EU, with the former stressing the need to fight corruption and take action against those implicated in the different scandals, the President pledged his support to those NGOs working to wipe out the vice, he stressed the importance of good financial governance and added that he was committed to transparency and had instructed Govt to move forward with the preparations for accession to EITI.

This sign of commitment by the President is a cause for excitment especially since GRA and its partners have been working hard to ensure the implementation of EITI in Uganda's legislation and have undertaken a couple of meetings and workshops with participants from Parliament (MPs), Civil Society, the Judiciary, the Religious fraternity and the Embassies in the country as well as a big number of foreign delegates from the US, UK, Ghana, Nigeria and Tanzania; a 2day conference under the theme; 'EITI in Uganda, its time to implement'.

Well done Civil Society.
